The Dublin People has launched its inaugural Community & Sport Awards.

We would be grateful if you would support the club by visiting:
http://dublinpeopleawards.com/submit-nominations/

and nominating ‘Baldoyle United’ under the ‘CLUB OF THE YEAR’ category today.

The award would be great recognition for all the hard work that goes into organising:

– football for 30 boys, girls and adult teams
– junior academies for boys and girls age 4-8
– community events such as the summer mini-leagues, Halloween and Easter Camps
– making facilities available to other local groups
– supporting local causes
– our work with ‘new communities’
– helping provide ‘walking football’ for older footballers.

Under 11s good start

Report by 10 year old Jack McDermott

Good win for the cup holders who started their league campaign away at Dunboyne. Baldoyle went behind to a Dunboyne goal we quickly fought back thru Alex Whelans header just before half time a lovely move involving me and Stephen Finn finished with Alex getting his second. h/t 1-2

Second half started and Adam and Aaron combined to make it three one. Dunboyne were a good side and never gave up but Alex Whelan made it 1-4 with the perfect hat trick (left foot, right foot header) Aaron Troy soon got his second Dunboyne got a consolation goal and Baldoyle won 2-5 Great game

By Conor McKenna

Baldoyle U14s capped off a fantastic season with a comprehensive 8-2 thrashing over St. Francis Moatview. Baldoyle went out on the pitch knowing a win would hand them their first ever trophy. Baldoyle were quick out of the blocks and Sean Kane volleyed home from close range after a cross from Michael Farrelly. Michael scored 2 inside the next few minutes and Baldoyle were unlucky not to go in at half time with a clean sheet but St. Francis nicked a goal from close range. Baldoyle restored their 3 goal lead when Michael ran through the opposition defence. 4-1 Baldoyle at half time, we had one hand on that trophy!

Michael got his 4th and Baldoyle’s 5th straight from the tip-off. Abrán Collins, Conor O’Dwyer, Colum Motherway, Paul Seery and Conor McKenna at the back kept things tight at the back and Baldoyle drew ever closer to the trophy. Zak Smith scored one and Michael scored 2 more to confirm Baldoyle as champions. Conor McKenna had the ball in the net only to be ruled offside. St. Francis pulled one back but that didn’t nor couldn’t stop Baldoyle and when the referee blew the final whistle Baldoyle celebrated being the NDSL U14E champions 2016.

A great performance capped off a fantastic season for Baldoyle. I’d like to thanks James Dawson, Barry Collins and Des Farrelly for all their help and time given up, and also thanks to all the parents who stood on the line and shouted at every game no matter what the weather.

BALDOYLE UNDER 10s CLINCH CUP IN DRAMATIC STYLE

2-2 AET. Baldoyle win 5-4 on penalties.

Baldoyle under 10s clinched the NDSL Michael Woods Cup in dramatic style thanks to a fine team performance and a penalty shoot out save from keeper Michael Eustace.

After Baldoyle took the lead through Stephen Finn Clonee United bravely fought back to lead 2-1 gong into the dying minutes of the game. However Baldoyle showed their determination and after a fine team move Jack McDerrmot finished brilliantly to force the game into extra time.

There were no more goals and the teams had to face the dreaded penalty shoot out. Baldoyle United keeper Michael Eustace proved to be the hero with a fine penalty save after both teams converted all their other penalties.

Well done lads and coaches Rob Roberto and Steve. Commiserations to an excellent Clonee United team whose time will come. Their goalkeeper played superbly today.

U8 v Balrath

Written by BUFC on . Posted in Team News

23 April 2016
It was a lovely sunny morning at Brookstone Road, as Baldoyle Utd Under 8’s entertained Balrath in their last official match of the season. It was a very close encounter with Balrath eventually coming out top with a winner deep in to added time to take the tie 5-4.
Balrath went in to an early lead before Baldoyle equalised after Eoin put a great ball in to the box and after a deflection the ball ended up in the back of the net. More good play from Eoin down the left wing saw him unlucky not to add to his tally. There was a great break from our own half and some good passing between Eoin and Ciarán ended up with a good save by Balrath. Despite some inspired and brave goalkeeping by Oisin in goals, Balrath took a 3-1 lead in at half time.
Baldoyle stepped it up a gear in the 2nd half with Ciarán getting 2 good goals to make it 3-3. Cian, as always battled very well in midfield to keep Baldoyle on top of the game before Balrath went ahead again. Jack played in defence in the 2nd half and along with James kept it very tight at the back. Alex, pushed up in to midfield after half time, controlled the play and had a few shots. Some good play down the left wing by Ciarán who did well to keep the ball in play before finding Eoin who calmly slotted home to make it 4-4 and ensure an exciting last few minutes. Conal after a spell in defence in the first half was involved in most of the goals where his passing was excellent, his injured wrist didn’t stop him getting a very deserved man of match award for today.
Right at the end of the match Balrath scored their 5th goal to win 5-4. However it was a great performance by the Baldoyle lads especially in the 2nd half, their passing, shooting, defending, goalkeeping and general play has improved every week. Well done today guys.

Match report, U8 C1 , baldoyle Utd v swords manor, team , Zach, Jamie, Reece, Ethan , Igor, Sean, brillant game for the lads today, baldoyle played superb and were unfortunate to go down 4-3 the result didn’t justify the effort and class of play from these young guys, a great game enjoyed by both teams. Looking forward to having Danny and leon back next week.

Under 9b remain unbeaten

Written by BUFC on . Posted in Team News

Baldoyle Utd under 9s B team started their match against Clonee hoping to extend an unbeaten run which began last November. They were quick off the mark again this week with Jason breaking down the right wing with pace and testing the Clonee keeper with a low drive.

Two minutes later Jason broke away again, this time he gave a neat pass to Amy. Amy controlled the ball superbly, and forced a great save from the Clonee keeper. But this time Senan perfectly placed the rebound to the keeper’s right. One nil to Baldoyle. Within a minute Senan got his second with another excellent strike.

With Hyqels tackling, Joshua’s pace and Darragh’s saves, Baldoyle looked very solid at the back. A clever pass by Hyqel gave Padraig Ryan the space to run at the Clonee defence,. Padraig skipped passed his marker and from 20 yards out he found the back of the net.

Baldoyle sensed there were more goals there for them but they were caught in possession in mid-field and Clonee raced forward giving Darragh in the Baldoyle goal no chance. Baldoyle’s Amy Berry was then rewarded for her close control and clever runs with a beautiful goal. 4-1 to Baldoyle at half-time.

The Clonee half time team talk must have been something special because Clonee were transformed after the break. They started attacking Baldoyle with pace and purpose and very quickly pulled the score back to 4-3 with two well worked goals which opened up the Baldoyle defence.

When Jason Cetiner broke free to score another for Baldoyle it seemed like it was game over. But this Clonee team never gave up, they got in behind the Baldoyle defence on several occasions. Padraig in the Baldoyle goal was forced to make some excellent saves and Joshua made a series of last ditch tackles.

Eventually, Clonee got their reward with two well taken goals. In the last few minutes either team could have snatched a win but both teams seemed happy to settle for a draw.

This was a great game played in good spirit by two top teams.

Under 14 6 Skerries Town 1

Written by BUFC on . Posted in Team News

Josh Dawson

Baldoyle U14s continued their recent excellent form with a solid display against Skerries this morning. The game started with Baldoyle on the front foot but no clear chances were created. Skerries came back playing some nice football and won a series of corners. The backline of Paul, Arbran, Conor and Colum stood firm to keep the game scoreless.

As the half moved on, the midfield of Josh, Gary and Lewis started to get a firm grip on the game and Baldoyle started to create some chances. Eventually the breakthrough came when Michael picked up the ball on the right just outside the penalty area, beat the fullback and powered past the keeper.

That led to a quick flurry of goals as Zak shot from range to beat the keeper, then a lovely move found Zak free on the left side of the area where he superbly lifted the ball into the net. Another goal just before the half as Michael went round the keeper to score his second and give Baldoyle a 4-0 lead at the break.

The second half stared well for Baldoyle as more good play found Sean in the box, and he was fouled by the keeper. Zak put it away for his hat-trick. The game opened up as Skerries tried to get a consolation and it duly came, a great save by Max but the striker followed to score the rebound. More chances at either end, Luke having efforts ruled out for offside and Lewis and Michael going close. It was Lewis who got the final goal, an excellent solo effort, picking up the ball on the left and driving to the box where he finished powerfully.

Under 10 Semi Final

BALDOYLE UNITED 4 DARNDALE 1
Scott LARKIN Aaron TROY Jack McDERMOT Luca ROMANO

A slow start from the boys could easily have been punished by a goal in the first minute and a corner conceded was lucky.
Still in the first ten minutes Baldoyle had yet to find their rhythm when Darndale struck with an unstoppable left foot drive.
Keeper Michael Eustace could do nothing to stop the goal during his brilliant performance.

Baldoyle were stung and hit back five minutes later with a break on the left involving Jack McDermot, Adam O Rourke and Aaron Troy resulting in a cross neatly tapped in by Scott Larkin to level the score.
From then United increased the pace to a level that had Darndale exhausted with brilliant midfield performances from Alex Whelan, Hayden O’ Neill, Callum Doyle and Jack Ranson.
Any threat from Darndale was quickly dealt with by outstanding central defending from Alex Duffy and Luca Romano and Alex McEleney.
Baldoyle were close to a half time lead when Alex Whelan’s left foot drive bounced back off the cross bar.

After the break Darndale were struggling with the pace Baldoyle had set but remained competitive and caused some nervous moments early in the second half.
But the pace took it’s toll and after a moment’s panic in the Baldoyle area the ball went to Alex Whelan who out paced the Darndale right side and released the unguarded Aaron Troy who took a touch to control and his finish was perfect.
Minutes later Jack Ranson won another typically tigrish tackle in midfield within seconds Jack McDermott was clean though and a calm finish gave Baldoyle some breathing space with 7 minutes left.

Darndale didn’t give in and continued to attack right to the end causing more skirmishes in the Baldoyle area, the last of which saw a break out from Aaron Troy whose cross pinged around the Darndale box before Luca Romano finished neatly for a 4-1 victory.

Fantastic display from the boys who are now clearly benefiting from the coaching of Rob, Stephen and Roberto

GREAT DISCUSSION: ' MAKING POLITICS WORK FOR FOOTBALL'

Baldoyle Utd Chairman Dermot Penrose and Club PRO Dave Nutley attended the public meeting on Monday night in The Beachcomber, Killester on how to improve the game in Ireland.

Speakers included Niall Quinn, Emmet Malone (Irish Times sports ), Neil Cotter (author of Dublin - The Chaos Years) Ethel Buckley and Niamh O Mahony (head of the Cork City supporters trust).

A full report is at www.the42.ie/niall-quinn-plan-for-irish-football-4477376-Feb2019/

Niall Quinn passionately set out his vision for a reinvigorated League of Ireland with academies and education for young players. Other speakers highlighted how a fragmented Irish football scene, with too many leagues and vested interests, could hamper development. Organiser Senator Aodhan O'Riordain observed how football, unlike GAA and rugby, had little influence in government and did not present itself well for funding.

A very interesting discussion and lots of food for thought. Have you any thoughts on the future for LoI or schoolboy football ?

Hard luck to our Girls Youths team who were beaten 5-3 by Mount Merrion in the Lee Bros cup Semi-Final today.
Going behind to an early goal, the Girls battled hard and were deservedly level 1-1 at the half time break.
Unfortunately for Tony Nolan's team the second half didnt go to plan and Mount Merrion ran out 5-3 winners with Abby Croke Radley(2) and Rachel Hanley getting the Baldoyle goals.
Congratulations though, are due to the team as it was a strong performance with some great football on display. The future is bright for these girls in green.
